Sultana Party
On 4 June 2011, Sultana's Dream held its official launch
party at Melbourne University's Sidney Myer Asia Centre. We counted ourselves
lucky that Karen Toohey, CEO of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights
Commission attended as our keynote speaker on the day.

Among the celebrations was a moving spoken word poetry
performance by Melbourne-based artist Alia Gabres (pictured above). Alia Gabres
is a Spoken word artist with (in her own words) “a heart full of words and
mind full of prose”. She fell into the world of Spoken Word and it has now
become her home.
She is a workshop facilitator for the Centre for Poetics
and Justice, as well as a Curator of a poetry explorations series entitled
‘Tell it like it is’ at the Footscray Arts Centre. Through Alia’s voice
and words we hear stories that are never heard.
The Sultana's Dream team would like to thank Alia for her
wonderfully moving performance at the launch, which mesmerised everyone there
and left us all wanting to hear more!
